Yaron Cherniak is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and PhD candidate in Ethnomusicology at UCLA. His work bridges Middle Eastern musical traditions and contemporary composition, creating original music for film, television, and media in collaboration with international productions including Netflix, ABC, and Disney.
An expert in Middle Eastern and maqam-based music, Cherniak performs and composes using a wide range of traditional instruments, including Persian tar, Turkish saz, Cretan lyra, oud, and tanbur. He holds a B.A. in Music from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and an M.A. in Musicology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where his research focused on musical meaning and the subversive role of music during the Islamic Revolution in Iran. His artistic and academic work explores intercultural musical dialogue and contemporary sonic storytelling.
