The Direct Track to a Master’s Degree in Dance is intended for dancers and dance practitioners studying at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance who wish to specialize at the graduate level in choreography/composition or dance performance, while also deepening their engagement with theoretical studies.
The essence of the direct track is a continuous course of study combining undergraduate and graduate degrees, enabling students to take courses from the Master’s program already during the fourth year of their Bachelor’s studies.
Admission Requirements
A high level of performance in the entrance audition – equivalent to the standard required for direct admission to the second year of the Bachelor’s degree*
A full matriculation certificate (Bagrut) with an average grade of at least 90 – admission to the direct track is not possible without a complete matriculation certificate
If the admissions committee determines, based on the entrance audition, that the applicant is suitable for placement in the second year, the student may be admitted directly to Year 2.
After completing one academic year at the Academy (whether Year 1 or Year 2), students may apply for admission to the Direct Track to the Master’s degree. A special admissions committee—comprising the Dean, the Head of the relevant undergraduate department, and the Head of the Master’s Program in Dance—will consider the application based on the admission requirements and the student’s professional achievements during their first year of study.
Admission conditions include successful completion of all required courses of Year 1 or Year 2 with a minimum average grade of 90.
An individualized study plan will be developed for each student in accordance with their academic program, by the Head of Department, the Head of the Master’s Program, and the Dance Faculty Coordinator.
Discontinuation of Studies by the Institution
At the end of each academic year, the student’s fulfillment of the academic requirements relevant to their course of study will be reviewed. If a student does not meet these requirements, the institution reserves the right to discontinue their participation in the direct track.
In such cases, the student may continue their studies toward a Bachelor’s degree in the regular three- or four-year program.
Tuition Fees in the Direct Track
Tuition fees for the first three years will be charged at the undergraduate rate, and tuition fees for the additional two years will be charged at the graduate rate.
Regarding institutional reporting: in the fourth year of the program, the student will be reported to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) / Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) as a Master’s degree student.
During the fourth year, the student will complete the required courses of Year 4 while beginning Master’s-level studies with conditional status.
Eligibility for the Bachelor’s degree will be granted only upon completion of Year 4 and subject to fulfilling all undergraduate requirements.
A student who does not complete the requirements for the Bachelor’s degree by the end of the fourth year will have their graduate studies suspended until those requirements are fulfilled.
* This does not constitute automatic admission to the second year, but rather indicates the required performance threshold only. Students admitted to the program will be registered as full-time students in Year 1. Admission to advanced years is not permitted.
