Zvi Carmeli, violist and conductor
Born in Jerusalem, Zvi Carmeli is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and former principal violist of the Netherlands Radio Phillharmonic. Zvi has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Gorzow Philharmonic and the Rubinstein - Lodz Philharmonic Poland, the Kuopio Symphony Finland, the European Community orchestra, the Kalaidos chamber orchestra in Lithuania, the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, and the Israel Camerata. He has participated in chamber music festivals such as Prussia Cove and Ulverston England, Emilia Romagna and Chieti Classica Italy, Moab festival USA and the Kol Hamusica festival in Israel. Zvi has collaborated as guest violist with the Fine Arts Quartet and the Mendelssohn Trio Berlin, and is a founding member of the Netherlands Impresaariat award winning SoLaRe string trio. He has recorded chamber music for lables such as Berlin Edel Classics, Kontrapunkt, Ottavio, Divox and Ars Nova. Zvi is a senior lecturer of Viola and Chamber Music at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance where he heads the chamber music department. He is also a regular faculty member of the Musica Mundi school of music in Belgium, and regularly teaches in masterclasses through out the world in institutions such as the Lenk summer academy Switzerland, Hong Kong academy and the Barenboim Said academie Berlin.
As a conductor Zvi has conducted the Collegium Musicum Orchestra Denmark, the Kuopio Symphony - Savo festival orchestra Finland, the Soestenberg festival Holland, the Berlin Chamber Soloists, the Israel Denmark soloists ensemble, the Orchestrzentrum orchestra in Dortmund, the UDK Julius Stern institute orchestra Berlin, the Muenster Hochschule orchestra , the Kaprizma ensemble Jerusalem, the Haifa Symphony, Netanya chamber orchestra, the Young Israel Philharmonic, and regularly conducts the Mendi Rodan symphony orchestra at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
