Admission Requirements – Multidisciplinary Performance Program: Vocalists, Musical Theatre, and Jazz Singers

A. General Academic Requirements

Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • An Israeli Matriculation Certificate (Bagrut) or an equivalent qualification, such as:
    • A recognized pre-academic preparatory program approved by the Council for Higher Education
    • A dance matriculation certificate recognized by the Ministry of Education
    • A “30+ Preparatory Program” certificate

B. Written Examination

Music Theory Test:

  • Intervals – identification and construction
  • Triads and seventh chords in root position – identification and construction
  • Inversions of triads and seventh chords
  • Scales and modes – identification and construction
  • Transposition
  • Reading and writing in treble and bass clefs
  • Harmonic/melodic analysis of a jazz excerpt
  • Melodic dictation (monophonic)
  • Jazz harmonic progression dictation
  • Rhythmic dictation

C. Multidisciplinary Vocalists

Practical Examination

  • Aural skills test
  • Performance of four contrasting pieces, as detailed below:
  1. Hebrew classical song emphasizing vocal technique (e.g., works by Sasha Argov or Mordechai Zeira)
  2. Contemporary song in Hebrew or English
  3. Pop-rock ballad in English
  4. Free choice

Requirements:

  • The selected repertoire must demonstrate stylistic diversity and the applicant’s vocal abilities
  • All lyrics must be performed from memory

Required Documents:
Applicants must submit the following in advance:

  • Medical certificate confirming vocal cord health (ENT specialist)
  • General medical certificate
  • Letter of recommendation from a voice teacher

Additional Instructions:

  • Sheet music/charts for all audition pieces must be provided
  • Applicants must be accompanied by a musician
  • The list of prepared pieces must be indicated on the application form
  • The admissions committee reserves the right to hear only part of the prepared repertoire

D. Musical Theatre Track

Practical Examination

  • Aural skills test

Stage A – Vocal Performance
Performance of four contrasting pieces:

  • Hebrew classical song emphasizing vocal technique
  • Contemporary song in Hebrew or English
  • Musical theatre ballad
  • Up-tempo musical theatre song

Requirements:

  • Repertoire must demonstrate stylistic diversity and the applicant’s abilities
  • All lyrics must be memorized
  • Equal emphasis should be placed on vocal performance and theatrical interpretation
  • At least two of the four pieces must be in English

Additional Instructions:

  • Sheet music/charts must be provided
  • Applicants must perform with an accompanying musician
  • The application form must include the list of songs and monologues prepared
  • The committee may choose to hear only part of the repertoire

Stage B – Acting and Dance Workshop
Applicants must attend a group workshop audition.

Each applicant must prepare one of the following:

  • A short monologue (up to 1.5 minutes), or
  • A theatrical presentation of a poem (e.g., by Yehuda Amichai or Zelda)

Requirements:

  • Text must be performed from memory
  • The dance component will be taught on-site
  • Applicants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for studio work

Required Documents:

  • Medical certificate confirming vocal cord health (ENT specialist)
  • General medical certificate
  • Letter of recommendation from a voice teacher or acting teacher

E. Jazz Vocalists

Practical Examination

  • Personal interview
  • Aural skills and improvisation test

Performance Requirements:
Performance of four pieces (preferably from the Real Book):

  1. Ballad
  2. “Confirmation” by Charlie Parker
  3. An additional jazz standard including improvisation
  4. Blues

Required Documents:
Applicants must submit in advance:

  • Medical certificate confirming vocal cord health (ENT specialist)
  • General medical certificate
  • Letter of recommendation from a voice teacher
